Ricky Federau

After a childhood of playing hockey and getting his head smashed into the boards to many times, Ricky took up bike racing at the age of 15. He bought his first bike after earning child slave labor money on the family farm out in Abbotsford, BC and has never looked back.

Ricky first made the mountain bike National team in 1998 as a first year junior and started a career that would last ten years and take him all over the world.

Highlights of Ricky’s career as a pro bike racer were winning national Championships titles as a junior, U23, and Senior. He also won the pan American championships in 2003, as well as medals at the world championship in the team relay.

Ricky has retired from competitive racing after the 2008 season but continues to ride and participate in the odd race when he can.

Currently Ricky lives in Chilliwack BC with his wife Melanie and the their young daughter Elbie. In his spare time Ricky enjoys fishing, back country skiing, and of course riding bikes.

This last year Ricky started valley bike guides (valleybikeguides.com) a coaching and guiding service in the Fraser Valley. Rickys hope is to see the growth of the sport through programs like Cahilty Racing and local events in the Fraser Valley.
